Council Gets Update on City's Sculpture Maintenance Program

There are 18 city-owned sculptures in Beverly Hills.

City Council received an update Tuesday on the annual maintenance program for city-owned sculptures.

Beverly Hills owns 18 sculptures located throughout town. The city's Fine Art Commission is tasked with determining which sculptures are most in need of restoration and when those repairs should take place.

Sculptures restored in 2012:

  • Hunter and Hounds (Henri Alfred Marie Jacquemart, 1925), Santa Monica Boulevard at North Crescent Drive.
  • Hymn of Life: Tulips (Yayoi Kusama, 2007), Santa Monica Boulevard at North Rodeo Drive.
  • Playground (Tony Smith, 2003), Santa Monica Boulevard at North Crescent Drive. 
  • Torso (Robert Graham, 2003), 270 N. Rodeo Drive.
  • Spiral of Life (Baile Oakes, 1985), North Rexford Drive at Burton Way.

Sculptures undergoing restoration in 2013:

  • The Drummer (Barry Flanagan, 1989), Santa Monica Boulevard at North Beverly Drive.
  • Home (Charles Arnoldi, 1992), North Rexford Drive at Burton Way.
  • Sitting Figure on a Short Bench (Magdalena Abankanowicz, 2000), Santa Monica Boulevard at North Crescent Drive.
  • Untitled (Fletcher Benton), Sunset Boulevard at North Whittier Drive.

The city budget for sculpture restoration in 2012 is $25,420. For 2013, it is $14,890.
