BHPD Nabs Alleged Beverly Drive Bank Robber

The suspect reportedly used a simulated weapon to commit the crime.

A man wanted for the robbery of a North Beverly Drive bank was arrested by the Thursday evening.

Walter Lewis Jr., 54, of Los Angeles allegedly robbed the branch at 460 N. Beverly Drive on Dec. 29.

Beverly Hills police detectives, with support from members of the BHPD SWAT team, tracked Lewis to a home in Long Beach. He was arrested on the 200 block of Burnett Street at about 7:45 p.m. as he attempted to flee the location in a car, according to Lt. Mark Rosen.

A BHPD crime blotter said the robbery suspect entered the bank at 2:40 p.m., simulated that he had a weapon, gave the teller a note demanding cash, then fled when he was given money. A loss of approximately $500 was reported.

"The FBI call him the 'Reggae Bandit' and believe he may be connected to an additional bank robbery in Culver City on Dec. 19," Sgt. Lincoln Hoshino told Patch.
