The following message is from the Beverly Hills Police Department.
For the past 10 years, the Beverly Hills Police Department has sponsored the Banneker Special Education School in South Los Angeles by adopting a classroom and students.
This year was no different; BHPD brought out the police cars, police dogs and motorcycles. The Los Angeles County Fire Department was there with the fire trucks and Los Angeles Police Department landed a helicopter, which is always a highlight. The donations that we raised from the Beverly Hills Police Department and other City departments was well received and will be used to assist the school.
The Banneker School provides educational services for 330 students, ages 3-22, all of whom have some of the most severe physical and cognitive challenges in the Los Angeles Unified School District, ranging from Mental Retardation, Autism, Developmental Impairment, to Multiple Disabilities.
The majority of the students come from low-income families, group homes, or receive foster care. In many instances, this program will be the only celebration they attend for the entire holiday season.
We thank Banneker’s Principal Dr. D. Christopher Eaton for always thinking of the Beverly Hills Police Department and including us in this great event.
