Week in Review: KCRW's Pie Contest and the Best Martinis in Town

If you like food, then this is the week in review for you. We have coverage of the Taste of Beverly Hills, tips on where to get the best martinis in town and a mini review on two local hot spots for hotcakes. Here's a recap of what happened in the city during the week of Sept. 5-11.

SUNDAY

The day started off with the Ace of Hearts Rescue Dog of the Week. We met Scooter, a beagle/Boston terrier mix who is in danger of going to a shelter.

Next came our Green Files column, pointing out that although it's great to walk instead of drive, pedestrians need to be aware of their surroundings to stay safe. 

MONDAY

The workweek kicked off with continuing coverage of the Taste of Beverly Hills. First we posted a video of celebrity chef Ted Allen demonstrating his top-notch cooking. After that came a video highlighting the foods presented at the celebration. Lastly we posted a video with tips on what beers to pair with your favorite cheeses.

Monday also brought our weekly Fresh from the Farmers' Market column. We leaned that it's "Honey Month" at the market.

TUESDAY

The first post was a story about the Beverly Hills Women's Club. With help from their junior members, the group gave out backpacks full of notebooks and pencils to 150 needy children.

Next came a video of Food Network's Scott Conant hosting a cooking demonstration at the Taste of Beverly Hills.

Then Patch remembered BHHS grad Joe Brown, manager of the '60 and '71 World Series-winning Pittsburgh Pirates, who died last month at the age of 91.

WEDNESDAY

Midweek began with a piece on the three best places to get a martini in Beverly Hills.

After that was a post about how parents are getting their kids ready for the new school year.

Last up was a football preview about the Normans' season opener against Santa Barbara.

THURSDAY

The day began with a video about BHUSD staff preparing for the new school year with CPR and other life-saving training.

Coverage of a California bill seeking to prohibit certain contracts with Iran came next.

Last up was a preview of Fashion's Night Out on Rodeo Drive.

FRIDAY

We kicked off the day with some ideas on how to have a budget-friendly weekend in Beverly Hills.

Then came a Resident Spotlight on mom Jessica Lozano.

After that came coverage of a Paley Center event where the major TV networks previewed their new fall schedules.

SATURDAY

We started the weekend with a story on two local eateries where you can satisfy your pancake cravings. 

Then came a recap on the KCRW pie contest, where more than 100 entries competed for prizes.

The week ended with video coverage of the city's remembrance ceremony in honor of the victims of Sept. 11.
