Check These Websites, Phone Numbers For Info During Closure Weekend

Public officials offer "Carmaggedon" tips and public safety information.

Los Angeles city and county officials are urging residents to "stay home, shop local and stay away from the 405 Freeway" during this weekend's . Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky issued the message at a press conference Wednesday evening in Sherman Oaks, while other officials are contacting constituents directly.

The 10-mile closure of the I-405 Freeway northbound from the 10 Freeway to the 101 Freeway begins Friday, with ramps closing as early as 7 p.m. and freeway lane closures commencing at 10 p.m. for a full closure by midnight. The 405 Freeway will reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 18, with ramps ready for commuters by 6 a.m.

State Assemblyman Mike Feuer, who represents Beverly Hills, offered transportation and public safety information in a special email message as the community readies for this weekend’s closure.

There will be a during the closure, according to Feuer. The unified command consists of units from the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Caltrans.

The closure area is divided into 13 parcels, and emergency service equipment and personnel will be positioned throughout the area before the closure begins. Between 200-300 Los Angeles Police Department personnel will be devoted to the closure area as well as 210 firefighters. In addition, extensive Los Angeles Police Department and Fire Department air fleets will be committed to the area.

For real-time traffic conditions, the public is encouraged to call 511 or visit Go511.com. Residents can also call the 405 project hotline at 213-922-3665 for non-emergency concerns.

“Remember that many buses and Orange, Red and Purple rail lines are during the closure,” Feuer said.
