Prizewinning Cellist Francisco Vila Plays Greystone Mansion Sunday

The "Music in the Mansion Series" will pair Vila with pianist Jennie Jung.

On Sunday, May 13 at 2 p.m. Beverly Hills’ historic will host an intimate concert featuring prizewinning Ecuadorian-Spanish cellist Francisco Vila and pianist Jenny Jung.

Vila—called “an exceptionally talented young cellist and musician…[headed] for an important place in the world of music” by renowned cellist Janos Starker—has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Notable recent performances include a collaboration with Grammy-Award-winning composer Osvaldo Golijov at Carnegie Hall, a recital with pianist Luize Borac and events at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Walt Disney concert hall. Upcoming projects include recording the second Saint-Saëns concerto with the Liege Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and a series of concert appearances including a Schumann concerto this summer in Belgium. He plays a 1790 Vincenzo Panormo cello on generous loan from the Saul B. and Naomi R. Cohen foundation.

Pianist Jennie Jung is a member of the Jung Trio, Grand Prize winner of the 2002 Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition. She has been a collaborative pianist at the Aspen Summer Music Festival, the Gregor Piatigorsky Seminar for Cellists, the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg.

The City of Beverly Hills prides itself in bringing its residents, visitors and patrons of the arts the finest in solo and chamber music performances. Since 1994, under Artistic Director Laura Schmieder, Music in the Mansion has presented concerts featuring selected prize-winning international and local artists. From January through June, monthly Sunday concerts are followed by meet-the-artists receptions and a tour of the first floor of the Greystone Mansion.  

The final regular concert of the exceptional 2012 season is the June 17 event featuring trombonist Ohtae Kwon & Flutist Jenni Olson at 2 p.m. The season will conclude with iPalpiti international orchestra at the inner court of the mansion on Wednesday, July 25, 7 p.m.

Tickets for each concert are $20, with the exception of the July 25 concert which is $30 per ticket. Seating is limited and advanced tickets are required. To purchase tickets, please call 310-285-6850 Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets, if available, may be purchased at the door.
