Mayor to Metro: Subway Plan Needs More Study

The dialogue over the route of the Westside Subway Extension continues as Mayor Barry Brucker responds to Metro's latest open letter.

In the most recent exchange of letters between City Council and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Mayor Barry Brucker has reiterated the city's support for the  so long as there is no tunneling under Beverly Hills' only public high school.

"Beverly Hills Unified School District is trenching on the campus of to determine the exact location of the possible Newport-Inglewood Faults and the West Beverly Hills Lineaments. This study is expected to provide important new information and detail on the status of these fault lines," Brucker wrote in the Feb. 8 letter. "The City of Beverly Hills requests that Metropolitan Transportation Authority conduct additional studies, including trenching on Santa Monica Boulevard, to determine the exact location of these same fault lines near the eastern station alternative for Santa Monica Boulevard."

The letter is addressed to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, chairman of Metro's board of directors, and Metro CEO Arthur Leahy. Brucker asks that the agency review , during which the findings of engineering and scientific consulting firm Exponent were discussed. Exponent reported that .
