The Maple Counseling Center May Have to Relocate

Partners with the City of Beverly Hills since its 1972 inception, the non-profit therapy center seeks ideas to remain in the city before its lease expires.

The Beverly Hills City Council learned The Maple Counseling Center, the non-profit mental health facility currently located at 9701 Wilshire Blvd., is unable to negotiate a new lease and may have to leave the city.

Chief Executive Officer Marcy Kaplan told the council and mayor the center's lease ends in early 2014 and welcomed any and all ideas for alternative space options. She said they need approximately 10,000 square feet.

"We've looked at alternative locations in Beverly Hills with no success, nothing identified that's affordable," Kaplan said. "In all likelihood we need to leave Beverly Hills and be in a Beverly Hills adjacent community."

Kaplan added that in the event the center moves, its services to the city, its employees and the school district will not change.

"The services that we offer are of critical importance to our community and are not easy to access these days in the for-profit retail sector or through public services that are available due to many public funding cuts," Kaplan said.
