Beverly Hills' Hakkasan and Nozawa Among Thrillist's Best of L.A.

Website takes a stab at ranking the best spots around L.A. for grabbing a bite and drinks.

A recent "best of" list about life in Los Angeles named Hakkasan and Nozawa Bar in Beverly Hills among "the coolest bars and restaurants in town."

The list by Thrillist took a stab at ranking the best spots around L.A. for grabbing a bite and drinks, and it gave a lot of love to Beverly Hills, North Hollywood, Studio City and a new hot dog spot just outside of Toluca Lake.

Leading the list for Beverly Hills was Hakkasan, the Chinese restaurant on Beverly Drive with "silly-awesome, science-savvy drinks and fancified eats," according to Thrillist.

Nozawa Bar on Canon followed suit with its local legend "Sushi Nazi" Nozawa serving omakase meals "featuring fish bought that day from a fish market where the chef's given exclusive access before anyone else to guarantee freshness."

Nearby in NoHo, Bow & Truss, opened by the guy who runs the Federal Bar around the block, was noted for its array of tapas and libation offerings like "the rye-Benedictine-vermouth-Amaro Creole (whose recipe dates back to the '30s), the Amestoy Swizzle (apple juice, brandy, Falernum) and the Scotch-sherry-absinthe Horse Thief."

An even newer eatery just outside of Toluca Lake in Burbank also got some positive attention. Umami Burger's latest experiment involved opening up at a much smaller location than usual, but a hefty lineup of new hot dogs.

That's mainly because the small burger chain took over Old Papoo's Hot Dog Show at 4300 W. Riverside Dr.

Honorable mentions in Studio City, include the Black Market Liquor Bar and the Laurel Tavern.
