BH Chamber of Commerce Announces Local Endorsements

Find out what propositions the chamber supports and its stance on Measure J.

The following is a press release from the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce.

After carefully considering all state and local initiatives on the November ballot, the Board of Directors of the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce endorses the following positions:

  • Yes on Prop. 30: California's beleaguered education system needs investment to keep the state competitive in higher education. In the City of Beverly Hills, over 58 percent of adult residents have a bachelor's degree or higher, and the continued success of our business community relies upon having a well-educated workforce.
  • No on Prop 31: Well-intended but flawed reform initiative would amend the California constitution. The proposition contains some good ideas (two-year budget cycle) mixed with some bad ones (allowing counties to alter state statutes or regulations relating to spending) and should be rejected.
  • No on Prop 32: This proposition intends to prohibit payroll deductions for political purposes to curtail the influence of special interests. However, with all the exemptions written into the measure for large businesses, this measure is misleading and does not take a fair approach to reducing the influence of money on state politics.
  • No on Prop 38: This proposition would hike taxes at a higher rate than the proposition backed by the Governor, Prop. 30, which the Chamber supports.
  • Yes on Measure J: A 30-year extension of the half-cent transportation sales tax would accelerate the construction of needed transportation projects and create thousands of jobs in the region.

The Chamber urges all of its member businesses and their employees to vote on Nov. 6.
