'Opportunistic Bandit' Wanted For Carjackings

The man is suspected in at least a dozen crimes in the Los Angeles area, including the Westside, the Valley and Hollywood areas.

Police released security video Tuesday of a man who they say committed carjackings and about a dozen strong-arm robberies and other crimes recently across Los Angeles, and in Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, Glendale and Pasadena. The suspect, dubbed the "Opportunistic Bandit," was described as black, about 25-35 years of age, 5-feet 9-inches to 6-feet 4-inches tall, weighing 180-250 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The man generally approaches his victims, mostly women, after they have obtained money at ATMs at banks or convenience stores, said Capt. The annual event celebrates the work firefighters do to keep our community safe.

The Beverly Hills Firemen's Association sponsored Fire Service Day 2012 Saturday at the Beverly Hills Fire Department headquarters at 445 N. Rexford Drive. "Beverly Hills' fire department has been providing service to the community for years and years and the Firemen's Association puts on this event every year to help show the community all the different services we provide," Beverly Hills Fire Captain Dean Viana told Patch. "This is everything coming out of the firefighters' pocketbook. We all chip in our money every day with our dues to hold this event. It's an open house for the fire department." Construction Worker Killed in Trench Identified

Bayron Lopez-Orozco, 23, of Los Angeles, died at the scene when an 8-foot-deep trench collapsed and buried him in Beverly Hills.

The construction worker who was killed when an 8-foot-deep trench collapsed and buried him at a Beverly Hills construction site was identified Friday. The collapse was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday at a home at 1265 North Benedict Canyon Drive. Bayron Lopez-Orozco, 23, of Los Angeles, died at the scene, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter. Firefighters first thought the estate was in Los Angeles, but after the rescue operation became a recovery operation, it was learned it was in Beverly Hills, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said. Travolta in NYC During Alleged Beverly Hills Assault

A meal receipt and photograph could disprove the sexual assault lawsuit filed against actor John Travolta.

The claim that John Travolta sexually assaulted a masseur at the Beverly Hills Hotel in January could be disproved by a meal receipt and photograph that place the actor in New York City on the day of the alleged incident. TMZ.com has posted the receipt from a meal Travolta ate at Mr. Chow in New York on Jan. 16, the day a male massage therapist claims Travolta made sexual advances towards him during a $200/hour session at a Beverly Hills Hotel bungalow. The website also has a photo of Travolta in New York on the same day. The masseur listed his name as "John Doe" in court documents. Masseur Accuses John Travolta of Sexual Assault at Beverly Hills Hotel

Representatives for Travolta claim the actor was on the East Coast during the time of the alleged incident.

A male massage therapist is suing John Travolta for $2 million, claiming the actor made sexual advances towards him during a January massage session at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The suit was filed last Friday and alleges assault, sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Representatives for Travolta say that their client was shooting a movie on the East Coast at the time of the alleged incident. TMZ.com reports the suit claims Travolta saw the masseur's ad online and scheduled an appointment for $200 an hour: The suit claims the first hour of the massage went without incident. Wilshire Blvd. Bank Robbed

The U.S. Bank on the 9500 block of Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills was robbed Tuesday afternoon.

The U.S. Bank at 9595 Wilshire Blvd. was robbed at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department. "The suspect demanded money but no weapon was seen," BHPD Lt. Mike Hill said. "We got the call five minutes after the robbery, but the suspect was gone by then." Hill said the amount of money taken is unknown at this time. Police helicopters could be seen hovering at the scene. The bank robber is described by police as a white male in his 60s who is about 5-feet, 6-inches tall. The investigation is ongoing. Beverly Hills Dentist Arrested Friday for Alleged Insurance Fraud

Tom K. Kalili is facing charges including insurance fraud, grand theft of personal property and filing a false tax return.

A Beverly Hills dentist accused of insurance fraud was arrested Friday in connection with a criminal complaint charging him with 101 felony counts, the District Attorney's Office said. Tom K. Kalili, 57, is scheduled to be arraigned early next week on charges including insurance fraud, grand theft of personal property and filing a false tax return. Kalili owns and operates Beverly Hills Medical Suites, a dental office located at 416 N. Bedford Drive, according to the District Attorney's Office. KTLA reported that Kalili and his partners have celebrity clients who include Jim Carrey, Kathy Ireland, Adam Sandler, Keanu Reeves and Vin Diesel. What lessons have we learned as Angelenos from the worst rioting in recent memory?

April 29 marks the 20th anniversary of the 1992 L.A. Riots. The widely televised upheaval, also referred to as the 1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest, was sparked by the acquittal of four LAPD officers—three white and one Latino—who were accused of brutally beating an African American man, Rodney King, in 1991.
