U.S. Tops 2012 Olympics Medal Count, Wins Most Golds

Team USA outperformed the competition, earning more medals than any other nation, as well as the most golds.

The United States of America continues to show its dominance on the world sports stage by taking home more medals than any other nation at the 2012 London Olympics.

The final medal count for the red, white and blue is 104. Making that number even sweeter is that America won the most golds with 46.

Part of the country's winning effort came from Beverly Hills native Amy Rodriguez, a member of Team USA's women's soccer squad, which defeated defending world champion Japan in a 2-1 match to give America its third consecutive Olympic gold in women's soccer.

China took second place for total medals won with 87 and also nabbed the second-most golds with 38. (Just for a little perspective, America has a population of about 311.6 million, compared to a Chinese population of 1.3 billion).

Host Great Britain also had a fine showing, taking fourth in total medals won and ranking third in the number of golds received.
