Senior BH Little League All-Stars Win District Title

Beverly Hills' 15-16 team advances to the section playoffs with a rout of Culver Marina.

Beverly Hills' Senior Division All-Stars won the Little League Baseball District 25 All-Star Tournament on Thursday night and will now advance to the Section 4 Tournament, which begins Saturday in Manhattan Beach.

Beverly Hills Little League hosted this year's Senior (ages 15-16) playoffs at and Beverly Hills breezed through the winner's bracket of the five-team tournament with a 5-1 win over Culver Marina and an 8-4 win over North Venice.

In the championship round, however, Beverly Hills was upended 5-4 by Culver Marina in the first game Wednesday, making a second and deciding game necessary Thursday. This time, it was no contest as the host team won 10-0 to clinch the District title.

Beverly Hills plays District 37 champion San Pedro East View at Marine East Field in Manhattan Beach today at 2 p.m. in its first game of the four-team double-elimination sectional bracket.

If Beverly Hills wins it will play again Sunday at 6 p.m. and if it loses it will play an elimination game at 2 p.m. Sunday at the same site. Two wins will earn a spot in the championship round at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Senior squad is the only Beverly Hills team to advance out of the District playoffs this season.

In the Junior Division (ages 13-14), Beverly Hills lost to Culver Marina 5-4 in the first round, dropping to the loser's bracket. There, it routed university 14-0 before being eliminated with 6-0 loss to Culver City.

In the 11-12 Division, Beverly Hills lost to Culver City 9-5 in the first round and lost to North Venice 10-0 in its first loser's bracket game.

In the 10-11 Division, Beverly Hills was routed 20-4 by Culver City in the first round, dropping to the loser's bracket, where it beat Culver Marina 8-5 before getting edged by University 9-8 in an elimination game.

Beverly Hills' 9-10 Division Gators had a strong tournament, winning its first two games over University and Ladera to reach the finals of the winner's bracket. There, Beverly Hills lost to Santa Monica West and dropped to the loser's bracket where it outslugged Ladera 18-12 in a game that lasted three and a half hours. Beverly Hills was eliminated by West LA in the loser's bracket final.

In the 9-10 Softball Division, Beverly Hills lost its first two games in the double-elimination District 25 Tournament.

In the 11-12 Softball Division, Beverly Hills lost its first game to North Venice, rebounded to shut out Culver City 6-0 in the first round of the loser's bracket, then fell to West LA in the semifinals.
