Little League Hosts District All-Star Tournament

Beverly Hills is the site for the Senior Division District 25 baseball playoffs starting July 7.

Beverly Hills Little League has been chosen to host the Senior District 25 All-Star Baseball Tournament at . Games will begin Thursday, July 7. The five-team bracket is the first step of all-star playoffs and whichever team emerges the winner moves on to the Sectional Tournament.

The five teams are: Beverly Hills, Culver Marina, City of Angels, Santa Monica and North Venice. Beverly Hills plays its first game Saturday, July 9 at 1 p.m. against the winner of the July 7 game between Culver Marina and City of Angels.

The championship game of the double-elimination tournament is at 6 p.m. on July 13, with a possible winner-take-all second game July 14 at 6 p.m. should an undefeated team lose the July 13 game.

Several other Beverly Hills all-star teams opened play last weekend.  

Culver City Little League is hosting the 11 & 12-year-old tournament, which started Friday. Beverly Hills is one of nine teams in the tournament and lost an exciting opening game, 9-5, to Culver City on Sunday. Beverly Hills plays North Venice in an elimination game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Bill Botts Field. The team that wins the District tournament advances to the Sectional playoffs. The final is Saturday, July 9, at 11 a.m., with a second and deciding game Monday, July 11, if an undefeated team loses July 9.

Ladera Little League is hosting the 10-11 division, where Beverly Hills fell 20-4 in its opener against Culver City last Sunday and will play Culver Marina at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday in an elimination game. The championship game is Tuesday, July 12, at 6 p.m., with a second and deciding game Wednesday, July 13, if an undefeated team loses July 12. 

Ladera is also hosting the 9-10 age division. The 12-team tournament started Saturday and Beverly Hills beat University 13-5 in the first round. Beverly Hills now faces Ladera at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Ladera. The championship game is Tuesday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m., with a second and deciding game at the same time the next day if an undefeated team loses the July 12 game. 

The Junior Division, also hosted by Culver City Little League, started Monday and includes nine teams: Beverly Hills, West LA, City of Angels, Santa Monica East, University, Culver City, University, Culver Marina, Santa Monica West and North Venice.

Beverly Hills plays its first game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. against Culver Marina, with the winner playing the University-West LA winner at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7. The championship game is Wednesday, July 13, at 5:30 p.m., with a second and deciding game at the same time July 14 if an undefeated team loses July 13. 

West Los Angeles Little League was selected to host both the 9 & 10 and the 11 & 12-year-old District 25 All-Star Softball tournaments and Beverly Hills is one of four teams in each age division.

In the 11-12 age group, Beverly Hills opened against North Venice last Saturday and was beaten 11-1, dropping to the loser's bracket. Beverly Hills rebounded the next day with a 6-0 victory over Culver City and will play host West LA on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for a spot in the finals Saturday, July 2, against North Venice.

In the 9-10 age group, Beverly Hills played host West LA last Sunday and lost 12-0. Beverly Hills must defeat North Venice on Thursday at 6:40 p.m. to avoid elimination. If victorious, Beverly Hills would play Malibu at 6:15 p.m. Friday.

The championship game is Sunday, July 3, at 10:15 a.m. at West LA Little League, with a second and deciding game Tuesday, July 5, at 6:30 p.m. if an undefeated team loses July 2. 

The West LA fields are located at 1411 S. Sepulveda Boulevard in Los Angeles.
