Beverly Hills Tennis Players Head to Ojai Tournament

The Normans play for the Griggs Cup while BHHS alumnus Daniel Ho is in the Pac-10 Invitational doubles.

The 111th Ojai Valley Tennis Tournament is being played this week in Ventura County and Norman players will participate in the high school division. Matches begin Thursday morning at various sites in and around Ojai. 

Beverly Hills High will be vying for the Griggs Cup, awarded to the school with the most combined wins in singles and doubles. 

In the CIF singles division (boys 18s), will play Jack McCullers of Mission Hills in the first round at 9:30 a.m. at Thacher School, with the winner playing again at 2 p.m.

In the CIF doubles division, the Norman duo of and will take on Thacher School's Mackenzie Combs and Jesse Garrett at 12:30 p.m., with the winning team advancing to the second round to play at 3 p.m.

The CIF singles and doubles finals will be on Saturday at Libbey Park in downtown Ojai.

In the boys 14s division, Beverly Hills resident Jackson Leipzig will take on Henry Lasoya of Los Angeles in the first round at 11 a.m. Thursday at Matilija Junior High School, with the winner meeting No. 1-seeded Garrett Mak of Arcadia in the second round at 3:30 p.m.

In the Pacific-10 Conference Invitational division, BHHS graduate and Stanford University freshman  will partner with Cardinal teammate Walker Kehrer. Now a sophomore, Kehrer paired with Greg Hirshman to win the title last spring.

Ho and Kehrer will take on University of Southern California's Michael Grant and Peter Lucassen in the quarterfinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Libbey Park. 

Ho, who graduated in 2010, won the BHHS Prestigious Athlete of the Year Award as a senior and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. He was a National High School All-American last year and a member of both the Southern California Davis Cup and USTA National teams.
