Standout Student: Daniel Shofet

Daniel Shofet juggles two jobs over summer break.

Some of Beverly's finest are skipping summertime at the beach for a lesson in the classroom. Others are participating in community service programs or internships. Patch caught up with these standout Normans to talk about their plans. We'll be featuring new students throughout the summer months.

Incoming senior Daniel Shofet, 17, has been busy with two part-time jobs over his break. Not only is he the teen columnist for Beverly Hills Patch, but he is also learning the ropes of real estate at Marcus & Millichap, the largest commercial real estate brokerage firm in the nation. Shofet is an assistant to the senior vice president of investments at the West L.A. branch of the company.

"I've been working for Patch since the end of the school year so I knew I was going to continue that," said Shofet, who is also the next editor-in-chief of Highlights, the nationally renowned Beverly Hills High School newspaper. "However, when the job opportunity came up at Marcus & Millichap, I knew I couldn't pass it up regardless of my other plans."

Shofet is hoping that his work experience this summer will make him stand out in a sea of college applicants come fall.

"Working at Patch and Marcus & Millichap all come into play for undergraduate business school," Shofet said. "I'm applying early admission to the University of Michigan because I want to stop worrying about high school as soon as possible."
