Update: Goldberg, Bilak and Hall Leading in BHUSD Election, Write-In Votes Still Being Counted

Final results are not immediately available because ballots for write-in candidate, Noah Margo, are still being counted.

Brian Goldberg, Frances Bilak and Lewis Hall are ahead in the race for three seats on the Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education, although write-in ballots have yet to be counted.

With 100 percent of the city's precincts reporting (without write-in votes counted) the results are as follows:

Brian Goldberg—1,106 votes, 39.57 percent

Andy Licht—499 votes, 17.85 percent

Noah Margo (write-in candidate)—Not yet known

Because Margo ran as a write-in candidate, the number of votes cast for him will remain unknown until they are counted by hand by the County Registrar of Voters.

Andy Licht announced Sept. 21 that he was no longer seeking a school board seat. However, California Election code 1510 states, "No candidate shall withdraw his or her declaration of candidacy after 5 p.m. on the 88th day prior to the general district election." The 88th day this year was Aug. 12, which means Licht's name remained on the ballot. Licht said he would resign if elected, which would allow the board majority to appoint a successor for a two-year term until the next school board election. Board members who are directly elected serve for four years.

Of the 20,730 registered voters listed by the Registrar, 2,795 votes were cast in non-write-in ballots. Voters were able to vote for up to three candidates, so the number of votes does not equal the number of voters. The Registrar has not yet released the total number of participating voters.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article was updated to reflect that there were "apparent winners" in this race. That is not the case. Write-in votes have yet to be counted.
