The Art of Wine—Burgundy: The Wine of Kings

Attend this festive evening of art and wine. A gallery talk by LACMA art historian and educator Mary Lenihan in the temporary exhibition The Mourners: Tomb Statues from the Court of Burgundy will showcase the extraordinary alabaster sculptures currently on view. Created during the reigns of Duke Philip the Bold and his son, John the Fearless, they represent the pinnacle of late medieval artistic achievement. Then enjoy tasting the fine wine of Burgundy—considered so important that Philip the Bold himself issued an edict in 1395 safeguarding its quality. Barbara Baxter of Planet Wine will share her knowledge of Burgundy's winemaking tradition through witty and informative comments; the five wines (both reds and whites) to be sampled, all from the prestigious winery, Maison Louis Jadot, will be introduced by Philippe Marchal. Each wine will be accompanied by a carefully selected amuse-bouche or hors d'oeuvres. Enjoy this wonderful beginning to your Saturday evening-and still have time for dinner afterward. Special appearance by Olivier Masmondet, Grand Export Manager of Louis Jadot and Maitre Sommelier de France.
