El Rodeo Student Kicks Off New Year Atop Rose Parade Float

Elyse Pollack of Beverly Hills participates in a local New Year's Day tradition.

While hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets on New Year's Day to watch the 124th Tournament of Roses Parade live in Pasadena, one lucky El Rodeo student was waving to the crowd from atop an award-winning float.

Seventh-grader Elyse Pollack rode the Miracle-Gro submission Everyone Grows!, which won the Rose Parade's "Crown City Innovation Award" for best use of imagination and innovation to advance the art of float design.

"It was very exciting and fun, especially when I waved and smiled to the little kids along the parade route and watched the excitement in their eyes," Pollack said. "I had a blast riding the Miracle-Gro float. It was a fun way to ring in the New Year."

Everyone Grows! was built by Fiesta Parade Floats. Along with its clients, the company took home seven Rose Parade awards this year, including the trophy for most beautiful float entry from a non-commercial sponsor with the Beverly Hills Pet Care Foundation submission Follow The Stars...Adopt A Pet!

Pollack was invited to ride the Miracle-Gro float by Tim Estes, the president of Fiesta Parade Floats.
