Countdown to Graduation: Alex Banayan

Meet Beverly Hills High School senior Alex Banayan.

What is your favorite high school memory? My favorite moment at Beverly was the first morning of STAR testing in 2009. Getting students to care about STAR testing has been a battle and the school's API [a score based on how well students perform during STAR testing] has suffered as a result. Jason Bellet and I, co-founders of the SBAC [Student Body Action Committee], worked hard to raise Beverly's API, and it felt so incredible when our work paid off. On the first morning of testing, my peers received free breakfast before heading off to testing—much more motivated. Our 2009 scores were higher than previous years and it was so great to feel like I was a part of making that happen.

What will you miss most? For me, it's Beverly students that make the school so great. My friends at Beverly keep me energized and happy. I'm going to miss everyone and all the great times we've had together.

What are your plans for next year? I'm going to USC—Marshall School of Business.
