BHHS Named Runner-Up in State Academic Decathlon

Beverly Hills High School qualified for the state competition when it won the Los Angeles County Academic Decathlon in February.

Beverly Hills High School finished in the top five spots in the California Academic Decathlon in Sacramento on Sunday.

Granada Hills Charter High School won the competition with 56,165.5 points, edging out El Camino Real Charter High School's 55,669.5 points.

Beverly Hills High School, which won the Los Angeles County Decathlon in February, was one of three runners-up. Franklin and John Marshall high schools were the other two runners-up.

Sixty-one teams competed in the California Academic Decathlon this year.

Granada Hills was the national Decathlon champs for two year straight, and has grabbed the California trophy for three years now. El Camino Real has also won the national Decathlon in past years. Both teams will head to the national Decathlon in Minneapolis on April 25-27—the first time California will send two schools to the national competition.

California schools have won the last 10 national championships, organizers said, and 15 of the last 18 ones.
