Resident Donates Funds for BHPD K-9

Thanks to a resident's generosity, the BHPD is getting a new police dog.

The City Council officially accepted $18,825 Tuesday from Beverly Hills resident Erika Glazer for the purchase and training of a Beverly Hills Police Department K-9 unit dog.

"Many residents in these difficult financial times step forward and help the city in a number of ways," BHPD Capt. Mitchell McCann said. "Tonight it's especially [important] to honor Erika Glazer for being so kind to donate money to keep our K-9 program up and running."

In response to a question from Mayor Barry Brucker, McCann said the dog would become part of the city's police force "hopefully almost immediately, as soon as we possibly can."

McCann said dogs come onto the force with a base level of training and that BHPD personnel will "take them to the next level."
