Rec and Parks Roundup: Greystone Caterers and Better Park Signage

Tuesday's Recreation and Parks meeting covered pre-approved caterers for Greystone Mansion events and signage improvements at city parks.

Recreation Services Manager Brad Meyerowitz presented a list of three pre-approved during the Recreation and Parks Commission meeting Tuesday.

After an extensive review process, Specialty Restaurant Group, Wolfgang Puck and Jackson Catering will be recommended to City Council at its Aug. 16 study session.

The purpose of creating the pre-approved list, Meyerowitz told Patch, is to have more control over the use of the Greystone kitchen during private events. The city also wants to provide catering options at several different price levels for those who rent the estate for private functions.

In other recreation and parks business, the board tackled the issue of improving signage at city parks. Vice Chair Susan Gersh said the monochromatic and text-heavy nature of current signs make rules less likely to be followed.

She also noted the misuse of the Yayoi Kusama plant sculpture at as a play structure. A sign telling people to “Enjoy with your eyes only” was partially hidden by foliage.

“We need to have better signage there,” Gersh said. “I do believe it’s our fault.”
