Brien, Mirisch Lead Preliminary Vote Count in City Council Election
Ex-Mayor Nancy Krasne holds 20-vote lead over Planning Commissioner Brian Rosenstein for the third seat.
Mayor Willie Brien and Vice-Mayor John Mirisch got the highest number of votes likely to see them re-elected to second terms on the Beverly Hills City Council Tuesday night, while former Mayor Nancy Krasne held a 20-vote lead over Planning Commissioner Brian Rosenstein for the third seat, according to preliminary election results.
A total of 4,402 votes were counted Tuesday night, excluding 493 potential vote-by-mail ballots and provisional ballots that voters dropped off at polling booths, Beverly Hills Public Information Manager Therese Kosterman said. Counting of the 286 vote-by-mail ballots and 207 provisional ballots will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, she added, and the next election results are expected by the end of Friday.
Mirisch, a film executive, topped the field of six candidates with 2,575 votes, according to the semi-official results from all 10 precincts plus vote-by-mail ballots released by the City Clerk's Office.

Brien, an orthopedic surgeon and a grandson of late Chief Justice and Gov. Earl Warren, was second with 2,373 votes. Krasne, who served on the council from 2007-2011 and was mayor from 2009-2010, had 2,311 votes, while Rosenstein had 2,291.
Mirisch's likely re-election means he will become the city's mayor March 27 under its rotation system.
