Parking Permit Renewal Available Online

Save some time and a stamp by renewing your preferential or overnight parking permits on the Web.

Renewing your Beverly Hills parking permit has just gotten easier.

Rather than mailing a check to the city's Department of Transportation, residents can now renew their preferential and overnight parking permits online.

This new system is "keeping up with technology," Deputy Director of Transportation Aaron Kunz said.

"A lot of residents requested this," he said. "It's more efficient for them and for us."

Since the beginning of August, nearly 2,000 payments have been made online, whereas about 1,000 have been mailed in.

A third option for renewing permits is to stand in line at City Hall and pay the fee in person. But even then, the payment would still be mailed to the transportation department on Foothill Road, where an employee would then have to process the paperwork.

But with the automated payment method offered online, there is less need for employees to physically process payments. With less work to go around, Kunz said that the department has had to "reposition some customer service."

There are "fewer people in the position," Kunz said of employees who process payments, but added that "nobody lost their job for this."

That's because customer service employees are shared between the city's Transportation and Public Works departments. There are seven rotating employees depending on need, with two or three typically working at the transportation department at a time.

With the success of moving its parking permit renewal online, the city is looking to make more services available on the Web.
