MTA Advisory Meeting To Be Held Next Week

A Metropolitan Transit Authority advisory group will hold a local meeting Feb. 22 to discuss the design of the two planned Beverly Hills Metro stations.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will hold its first Beverly Hills Station Area Advisory Group meeting on Feb. 22 to discuss the design of the city's two Metro stations as part of the .

The advisory group consists of about a dozen individuals who are representative of the residents, businesses and property owners around the stations. The group, first by the MTA, consists of community members who were suggested by city officials and the Chamber of Commerce.

The SAAG will discuss plans for the two planned stations at Wilshire Boulevard/La Cienega Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard/Rodeo Drive. The group will not focus on the stop following Rodeo Drive as the MTA has yet to decide its exact location. As previously reported, the MTA is considering a route that involves in order to stop at Constellation Boulevard in Century City.

The SAAG meting is supposed to function as a roundtable discussion during which members and MTA planners will discuss issues specific to the design of each station, the MTA said in a statement. There will be a brief presentation followed by two sessions to discuss each station.

The public is welcome to attend the meeting to observe and MTA staff will be available to answer questions. Beverly Hills city staff members have been invited to attend.

Unlike the MTA community meetings, however, there will be no public comment period.

The Feb. 22 meeting will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The library is served by MTA bus lines 16 and 316, and the adjoining parking structure offers two hours of free parking.

The Westwood SAAG will meet Feb. 23 at the same time at the Westwood United Methodist Church, while the mid-Wilshire SAAG will meet Feb. 28 at LACMA West. The groups are scheduled to meet again in April and in June.

Metro is currently conducting a final environmental impact report for the Westside Subway Extension. If approved by the relevant authorities, construction could begin in 2013.
