Mayor Brien Files Paperwork for Re-Election to City Council

First elected to the Beverly Hills City Council in 2009, Willie Brien is seeking his second term.

The following is a press release from the campaign to re-elect Dr. Willie Brien to City Council.

With family, friends and supporters alongside him, Mayor Willie Brien, M.D., filed the necessary paperwork with the City Clerk to seek another term on the Beverly Hills City Council.

“I am extremely proud of what were able to accomplish during my first term. The City is moving in the right direction. We have generated a $10 million surplus while maintaining our amazing City Services. But there is still work to do and I am not one to leave a job undone. That is why I am seeking another term on the Beverly Hills City Council,” Mayor Brien said.

The grandson of former U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice and California Governor Earl Warren, Brien’s goals for a second term include further reform of the pension system to protect the City’s strong financial position, expansion of the traffic management plan he helped lead to keep pass through traffic out of residential areas, and achieving an alternative subway alignment.

Brien stated, “I will continue to vigorously support the School Board's position on the subway. We cannot have tunneling under our children’s classrooms. I fully support the District's CEQA challenge and will continue to fight for an alternative route.”

Mayor Brien has a stellar Steering Committee that includes Campaign Co-Chairs Craig Corman, Planning Commission Chairman, Drs. Sharona and Daniel Nazarian, Dena and Irv Schecter and the Hon. Donna Ellman Garber. He is also being supported by recently appointed Planning Commissioner Alan Block , Soroya and Dr. Rubin Melamed, Judy Henning and Dick Rosenzweig, and Winifred Hervey, President of the Beverly Hills Active Adult Club, among many others.

“I am honored to have the support of such a diverse group from this amazing community. I look forward to the campaign, hearing from residents and making sure Beverly Hills keeps moving in the right direction.”

Election Day is March 5, 2013.
