Other facts

Under the new California redistricting map, I am now running to represent several new areas of Southern California, including the coastal areas of Venice south to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. I also retain many wonderful areas of my current district, such as Agoura, Calabasas, Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and West Los Angeles. While the geography of the district I am running in has changed, my commitment to fairness and fighting for tangible improvements in people's lives remains unwavering. I am proud to have made a real difference in the quality of life for all Americans: Helping pass the Affordable Care Act, which ensures that millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions cannot be denied insurance coverage; Forcing the big tobacco companies to stop marketing to kids and directing the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products; Strengthening the Clean Air and Safe Drinking Water Acts, laws that have significantly reduced air pollution and given us one of the cleanest water sources in the world; and Requiring nutritional and safety labeling on foods, and improving the safety of our nation's food supply. I look forward to fighting with you to build a better future.

Henry Waxman has been one of the strongest advocates for many if not most political issues I care about, not the least of which is health care reform. Thank you Henry.

He's a life-long politician and a Democrat. What more do you need to know? Let's replace him with a real American with real American values. You liberals have had your time and once again proven that socialism is a failed concept. California is going down the toilet and it's time for the lefties to step back and make way for sanity.
JBB September 01, 2012 at 02:24 PM
He will be there til he dies, unfortunately. The people in his district will re-elect him over and over. He is a good case for term limits. I would love for him to be defeated.
boomboom September 01, 2012 at 03:06 PM
That last two posts are correct. This state has been run into the Ground by the liberals. We are broke and they have no regard with how we got there nor do they care.
Captain Liberty September 03, 2012 at 03:21 AM
Gee, real American values are being claimed by the neo-Fascist right? Now I know how the Germans felt back in the 30's.

I am honored to be represented by Mr. Waxman. He has consistently stood firm on issues that are in the best interest of the people, be it environment, health care, education, defense, science, technology or the economy --- while not falling prey to the self-serving special interest groups with hidden agendas. Keep up the great work, Mr. Waxman!!

Waxman is the poster boy for the continuing decline of CA, caused by out of touch, liberal politicians. Vote him out! These are just a few of his actions: Voted NO on building a fence along the Mexican border. Voted NO on reporting illegal aliens who receive hospital treatment. Voted YES to cover child resident aliens under Medicaid and SCHIP Signed the Dream Act allowing illegal aliens to stay here, and attend Universities with taxpayer funding, even though they are not legally allowed to work Voted NO on eliminating the Estate Tax ("death tax") which is money that has already been taxed when earned Waxman adopted the Progressive Caucus Position Paper: “Reduce the concentration of wealth & wage inequality”, to take from the people who worked hard to become successful and give handouts to everyone else. Voted NO on capping damages & setting time limits in medical lawsuits. Voted NO on Bankruptcy Overhaul requiring partial debt repayment. Rated 100% by UFCW, indicating an anti-management/pro-labor record.

Mr Waxman , would never get my vote , and he will not get my families now that reside in Ca. . He should educate himself on Primatene Mist , this is a safe medication , and has been used for over 40 years , where has he been .. Not effective .. People are suffering Mr Waxman without this medication.... Millions of us are Suffering .. The Primatene Mist is a much better inhaler than any available , there is nothing wrong .. Of course each person you contacted have a Rx inhaler to sell me that does not work, come with many more side effects than Primatene Mist does .. Please People talk with an Asthma Patient
lauri smith September 05, 2012 at 04:10 AM
Hi, I have asthma and cannot afford health care. I relied on Primatene Mist as my lifeline. Since the FDA's decision to remove Primatene Mist from the American public's pharmacy shelves, my life has drastically changed. I no longer can go outside and enjoy life. I have to stay inside in a temperature controlled environment because I can't breath during certain temperature changes. I cannot move around freely because I can't breath and have nothing to rely on to help me since the removal of Primatene Mist from the U.S. market. I have not been able to work because I cannot find any way to get to and from a job without going outside and no longer have my inhaler to help me along the way. My question to you, since I didn't get a voice prior to the removal of my lifeline, is why on earth wouldn't the remaining units be put back on the shelves when they are going to be destroyed and "harm" the ozone layer anyway? Asthma patients are people too and they have the right to breathe just as much as anyone else in society. Why not help us? Thank you, Lauri Smith
Julie Yanklowitz September 05, 2012 at 05:48 AM
Regarding your pathetic statements during the recent hearing for the Asthma Inhaler Relief Act, I am appalled at how completely one-sided your opinion is. You have taken absolutely no testimony from the most important witnesses of all, namely the entire population of asthma victims who have used this product safely and effectively for the last forty plus years. These are the people you should hear from. They are the ones stricken with the affliction of asthma. Why is it that you chose only to side with the pharmaceutical industry and medical doctors who line their pockets with the profits from recommending only the drugs they are paid to promote. If you really care about people in your district, why not have the decency to at least discuss it with the victims of this ban, who's lives depended upon PM availability. These people need this medication desperately. ER and hospitalization costs have increased dramatically for these asthma patients who heretofore could barely afford only the $15 OTC PM inhaler, which come to find out works much better for many of them than the prescriptions that cost much more. Have you even considered what they must be going through now that the medication is unavailable to them? I guess not since you made a joke about how "there's no RUSH". I beg to differ with you, sir. It is now an emergency, sir. It is urgent that you change your mind and support this bill with every breath you breathe. That is how important this is.

Really? On Dec 20th, 2011 he voted AGAINST the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Extension - which would have reduced payroll taxes for small business and extended UM benefits! On April 19th he voted AGAINST "Income Tax Deduction for Small Businesses". On July 26th he voted AGAINST the "Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act"......and the list goes on! Yeah, he's a peach alright! Great guy and now he wants to stop OTC inhalers from being put back on the shelves for asthma patients that cannot afford any other treatment? He's a real pal! Funny thing is though that he's on the ballot in November. I think his prior voting record should be made public knowledge and posted all over the internet so that the public can see just what a great guy he REALLY is!!
lauri smith September 06, 2012 at 02:51 AM
What? He's not going to be there til he dies....Don't just complain about him - do something!
lauri smith September 06, 2012 at 03:11 AM
Stood firm on issues that are in the best interest of the people? Which people? Property owners? Nope, he voted against the Private Property Rights bill, which would have protected property owners from having certain land seized by the government. Enviornmentalists? Nope, he voted against the Forest Recovery Bill and FOR the Road Construction Amendment, so now forests are NOT protected. Seniors? Nope, he voted against the Social Security Account Protection bill, which would have added federal monies to protect SS recipients. Farmers? Nope, he voted AGAINST the Farmer Bankruptcy Bill, which would have given farmers a break in their efforts to recuperate. Citizens of Mexico or Central America. Yes, he did vote for the Merida Program. So now we know who's best interest he's protecting! Merida, provides assistance for anti-drug programs in Mexico and Central America to the tune of $1.54 billion dollars. AHA - you're right, best interest of the people. Just not our people. BTW - He voted against the Online Freedom of Speech Act, speaks for itself - or maybe it doesn't because it can't! Oh, but if it makes you feel better he did support the SPAM reduction act....so I guess that is something, eh? I mean hells bells - that's important!

We cry for help only to be dismissed by doctors, pharmaceuticals, the FDA, congress and even the president of the united states... They have their campaigns, conventions and tv broadcast... They expect us to listen and give them our vote.... Why... They laugh and joke at our experience.... Our lifestyle has changed to the point many of us are unable to work. We can't get out for family cook-outs, exercise, are much of anything... Why do we have laws and a government.... If I sold something that did not work like I promised I could be sued... But doctors and pharmaceutical do it daily.... If I stole money from another I would go to jail... And if I took the life of millions of others, I would get the death penalty... But yet the FDA and congress and president get by with it..the FDA is a joke .... They approved hundreds of dangerous Prescription drugs that cost thousands of people their life and are still doing so... I need and want my primatene mist back on the shelf to help to me to have a normal life... I want to breath again.. By anyone voting for this ban should be thrown in jail for murder....

Congratulations, you have an unformed opinion and are angry and hateful. But your apparent lack of education makes you come across as just dumb and angry. You'd be well served getting an education to better understand the concepts you toss around (e.g., do you really even know what socialism is, aside from what you've heard on your silly rightwing radio? And define your terms – 'American values' is meaningless). Educate yourself - a course in critical thinking , for starters. Then a history class.
lauri smith September 06, 2012 at 08:36 AM
Yes, I read it the first time you posted it. It doesn't mean it's true. You can post it 1000 times and it's never going to make the statement true. Do you homework and research Waxman and his record. Its online for anyone to see at anytime. Check it out! In the meantime - know this: Waxman is against the sale of OTC asthma inhalers. There are over 3 million people in this country that suffer from asthma every day. Due to the removal of the OTC inhalers, people have died! But true to form, Waxman contradicts himself again. When asked about the energy package he stated. “....Some of these pollutants do harm, and they may even lead to fatalities...." So which is it? Some avoidable deaths are more important that others? Who is he to make a judgement like that? I think Moe Lane said it best “....Surely there’s something going on with the plastic surgery or exotic pet industry that Waxman could involve himself in, and thus please his core constituency…”
lauri smith September 06, 2012 at 08:40 AM
Well, AJ - that about sums it up! After you said "....political issues I care about....", I realize now why you support Waxman. He couldn't care less about what's good for the country as a whole either. He's only interested in supporting the issues that "he cares about". And BTW - just for future reference....that IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE COUNTRY TODAY! People that only support what they care about! I guess things could be worse.....you could be in Washington, DC. Egads!

he has never been the congressman of the south bay before, what phenomenal record are you talking about?
Lysa Schaffner September 21, 2012 at 05:26 PM
After 19 terms in office: this Congressman does not justify earning another term just because he demanded that our foods have nutrition labels. Now Waxman refuses to support the XL Keystone Pipeline extension, which will bring down the cost of oil, gas, and provide relief for fuel consumers who are witnessing an unprecedented increase in food prices. I wish Waxman had pursued members of his own party with the same assiduousness. After 19 green tech companies have gone bankrupt, taking down billions of taxpayer dollars, Waxman merely mentions: “I’m sorry!” The expansion and expense of government power will inevitably breed corruption, waste, and fraud, yet what else can we hope for if a liberal legislator who “loves to legislate”, who sees nothing wrong with expanding government power into healthcare and environmentalism? From ignorance about this country's steroid laws, to the billions that this country has lost on federal loan guarantees, to his blatant indifference to the national debt, Mr. Waxman's former “victories” over Big Tobacco, Big Food or Big Iraq do not compensate for his repeated failures to stay informed and stay involved in the needs of his constituents. On Nov. 6, end the reign of Congressman Henry Waxman.
