Election Filing Deadline is Friday

The deadline to become a candidate for the Beverly Hills City Council is Friday, Dec. 10.

A pair of seats on the Beverly Hills City Council are up for grabs this spring. The final day to get a candidate on the ballot is Friday, Dec. 10.

Mayor Jimmy Delshad and Councilwoman Nancy Krasne's four-year terms are coming to an end. , while Krasne is expected to refile. Planning Commission Chair Lili Bosse and Recreation and Parks Commissioner Dr. Julian Gold have both filed the necessary paperwork to run.

The election is Tuesday, March 8. All council candidates have to be at least 18 years old, a United States citizen and a registered voter living within the Beverly Hills city limits.

Nomination papers can be picked up at the . It's suggested to make an appointment with the clerk, as it can take about 45 minutes for the papers to be issued. Potential candidates must pay a $25 filing fee.

Council members receive an annual salary of $9,500, along with health benefits and a pension. Their duties include adopting an annual budget and passing legislation. The council also appoints a mayor and vice mayor for one-year, rotating terms. Regular council meetings are usually held on the first and third Tuesdays of every month, with special meetings scheduled as needed.

Editor's Note 12/7/2010: When this story originally ran on Monday, Dec. 6, it incorrectly stated that Councilwoman Nancy Krasne had already refiled her paperwork to run for City Council in March 2011. While she is expected to run for re-election, she has yet to file any paperwork with the city.
