Council Prepares to Hear Appeal on Health Club Project

Members set a hearing date for an appeal of the Architectural Commission's decision to allow a remodel of 9465 Wilshire Blvd. for the forthcoming Equinox exercise club.

During a segment of Tuesday's City Council meeting, members approved city staffers' recommendation of Aug. 2 as the date for a public hearing to consider an appeal regarding the Equinox fitness club's intention to alter the facade of the 9465 Wilshire Blvd. building.

"The approval granted by the Architectural Commission allows for of an existing commercial building," Susan Healy Keene, director of community development, wrote in an agenda report. "The modifications include signage, a new pedestrian entrance and new finishes."

Todd Elliot, an attorney representing Ron and Sharon Gart and Neighbors Organized to Protect the Environment, filed the appeal May 31, according to Keene.
