Council Candidates Present Views at Forum

The Beverly Hills Municipal League hosts the first candidate forum of the 2013 election.

Beverly Hills City Council hopefuls assembled at City Hall on Tuesday for the first candidate forum of the 2013 election season.

Mayor William Brien, Vice Mayor John Mirisch, former council member Nancy Krasne, Planning Commissioner Brian Rosenstein and political newcomer Katherine Cohan responded to a questions about a variety of issues affecting Beverly Hills. The city's budget, school funding, Metro's plans for a subway tunnel under Beverly Hills High School, homelessness, water rate increases, historic preservation and real estate development were among the range of topics candidates addressed.

The Beverly Hills Municipal League sponsored the event, which was moderated by league President Thomas White.

Michael Talei, the sixth candidate in the race, "was unavailable at the last minute" and did not attend the forum, White said.

The next candidate forum, sponsored by the Southwest Beverly Hills Homeowners Association is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber.
