Civic Center Parking Entrance to Close

The City Hall and library parking structure entrance on Rexford Drive won't be accessible for six weeks to accommodate a mural installation.

The Rexford Drive entrance to the Beverly Hills Civic Center's parking structure will be closed weekdays for about six weeks starting Monday.

The closure is for the installation of a historic Millard Sheets mural above the entrance, the city announced this week. During the construction, detour signs will direct drivers to the Civic Center Drive entrance and exit.

The Rexford Drive entrance will be open on Saturdays and Sundays and all
day March 5 for the municipal election.

The mural by renowned California artist Millard Sheets used to hang in the motor court of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, according to the city. It is approximately 15 feet by 31 feet and depicts an early California scene of people and horses in a forest setting.

The piece was removed from the hotel in 1987 and presented to the city as a gift, but it has been in storage until now.

Arcadia-based California Construction Inc. is the contractor for the mural's $273,440 installation, according to a city staff report.
