City Talks Segways and Trousdale Views

At its Tuesday study session and regular meeting, the City Council discusses possible rules for Segway vehicles and finalizes the Trousdale height ordinance.

Councilman Julian Gold requested a study session discussion Tuesday on possibly banning or establishing rules for motorized Segway vehicles on sidewalks. Segways are two-wheeled, electric vehicles that a driver operates from a standing position.

A company runs Segway tours through Beverly Hills' residential and commercial districts.

Gold's colleagues sought no immediate legislative action on the issue but did agree to add Segways to a study of bicycle use in the city.

The council also reiterated its passage of an ordinance regulating wall, fence and hedge heights in the Trousdale Estates. At its Aug. 2 meeting, the panel unanimously enacted the , which creates height standards for walls, fences and hedges—including trees—on hillside slopes in the exclusive area of Beverly Hills.
