City Designates Millard Sheets Artwork Installation as Local Landmark

It is the 15th such landmark designation for Beverly Hills. It's located on a parking garage.

The Millard Sheets piece affixed to the parking garage at 450 North Rexford Dr. in Beverly Hills was approved by the City Council Tuesday to be designated a local landmark to be included on the local register of historic places. It becomes the 15th such designation for the city.

Sheets mural depicts Spanish noblemen completing or departing on a journey, but it signifies the celebration of travel.

The Cultural Heritage Commission brought the proposal forward in July.

Urban designer William Crouch told the City Council this piece was disassembled in 1993 from the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and then reinstalled in 2007.

"It's fitting. It's traveled on its own," Krauch said. "It's a wonderful work of art and great addition to the city."
