The city's 2013-14 budget, which includes funding for sidewalk maintenance, extended library hours and public safety in Beverly Hills, was approved earlier this month by the City Council.

Council members adopted the $417 million budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 during a June 18 meeting.

"We were very fortunate this year in that we had increases in all four of our major revenue streams," said CFO Don Rhoads in a statement. "We were able to increase funding on some of the Council’s highest priority programs while strengthening our financial sustainability by adding to reserves and paying down unfunded liabilities."

The recently adopted budget includes $1.8 million in "general fund budget enhancements," which include a crime analyst for the Police Department.

Funds were also allocated for community assistance grants and contributing to unfunded pension liabilities.
