City Announces Team Beverly Hills Membership

The leadership training program launches its 2012-13 session.

Thirty-seven new members will join Team Beverly Hills, the city announced Tuesday. The program gives residents a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at how their local government operates.

"The Team Beverly Hills program is designed to create an environment that nurtures and encourages leadership, participation and responsibility by the City's citizenry," according to the city's website. "The vision of Team BH is to develop and maintain an informed, energetic and diversified resource for community involvement and leadership roles."

The 2012-13 session begins in September and runs for five months. Participants meet 10 times for tours, lectures, demonstrations and presentations from officials connected with various city departments.

The City Council selects 35 applicants by lottery, the website reports. The Beverly Hills Unified School district selects two Beverly Hills High School students.

Michael Yosef and Nathan Cohen are the new session's student participants.

“We are so pleased with our eager group of future leaders,” Community Services Administrator Gisele Grable said in a statement. “It’s going to be a busy and productive year for them at City Hall.”

Since Team Beverly Hills started in 1996, 462 residents have completed the program, according to the Community Services Department. Many volunteer at city events, provide assistance to neighborhood projects and local nonprofit organizations, and participate in the city government as committee members and commissioners.
