Bloom Declares Victory in 50th Assembly District Race
The latest vote count for the tight race with opponent Betsy Butler puts Bloom ahead by more than 1,200 votes.
Though official results are expected Dec. 4, Richard Bloom announced Wednesday he is on his way to Sacramento as the 50th Assembly District's newly elected representative. The latest tally has put Bloom ahead of Betsy Butler by 1,246 votes.
Butler had represented the 53rd Assembly District until recent redistricting. Bloom is currently the mayor of Santa Monica. Both candidates are Democrats.
"I look forward to working on the issues that matter to my constituents—education, jobs, the economy and protecting the environment," Bloom said in a statement. "I want to congratulate Ms. Butler on a spirited contest and send her my best wishes for future success."
