Blogger Breibart a No Go in Beverly Hills

The Republican National Committee cancels a mid-August fundraiser featuring the controversial blogger.

Beverly Hills won't play host to conservative blogger Andrew Breibart, who was scheduled to appear with Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele at a Beverly Wilshire Hotel fundraiser later this month.

The RNC canceled the Aug. 12-14 event to save on travel costs, according to CNN.com. But Breibart has recently come under fire for promoting an edited video clip that  incorrectly made it look as though former Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod had discriminated against a white farmer. Sherrod is African American.

After the Obama administration forced Sherrod to resign for her alleged actions, the full clip of her speech emerged. It showed that Sherrod had actually helped the farmer and was recalling the experience as a cautionary tale against racism.

During an appearance at a National Association of Black Journalists convention in San Diego last week, Sherrod announced that she will pursue legal action against Breibart.

But Breibart may make it to Southern California for the RNC after all. The Washington Times reported Sunday that Breibart would be welcomed at another RNC event in the state planned for after Labor Day. There is no word whether the rescheduled event will be held in Beverly Hills.
