Korbatov, the immediate past president of the Board of Education, said she believes Torgan will bring fresh, new leadership to the State Assembly.

"We need someone like Brad Torgan who has served his local community to listen and speak up for local communities—not special interests—in Sacramento," she said in a statement.

Mirisch concurred, calling Torgan a uniquely qualified candidate.

"Brad Torgan understands the challenges facing California and, unconstrained by any Insiders' Club of partisan party politics, he is unafraid to actually do something to try to solve our state's problems," Mirisch said in the statement.
