Traffic gridlock begins at Wilshire and San Vicente boulevards where Beverly Hills and Los Angeles police locate a suspicious item.

Beverly Hills and Los Angeles police investigated a "suspicious container'' near Wilshire and San Vicente boulevards Monday afternoon, which turned out to not be a threat. The incident caused traffic gridlock for the surrounding area for more than one hour.

According to @BHScanner on Twitter after 12:30 p.m., it was a traffic nightmare and Wilshire Boulevard was closed near San Vicente and the suspicious container is located between Gale Drive and San Vicente on Wilshire.

At 1:30 p.m. a Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad left the intersection after locating a container (some reports say backpack) filled with "clothing and miscellaneous papers," according LAPD spokesman Richard French.
