Police Blotter: Stolen Bikes, Shopping Ruse and Carjacking

Bicycles are a popular target for thieves in Beverly Hills.

Sometimes even a lock won't deter a thief from taking your bicycle. Read about stolen bikes and more in the latest crime blotter set.

Tight squeeze 

Between 12:15 and 5:15 p.m. on Jan. 9, a home was ransacked on the 1200 block of Coldwater Canyon Drive. An unknown person entered the residence through a small bathroom window. The victim reported a loss of $2,300.

Double smack 

At about 9 a.m. on Jan. 9, an assault occurred on the 300 block of South Rexford Drive. A man described as being 35 years old, 6-feet 2-inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with auburn hair and green eyes allegedly slapped a woman twice on the right side of her face during an argument.

Cable cutter 

At about 1 p.m. on Jan. 11, a bicycle was stolen from the 9600 block of South Santa Monica Boulevard. Someone cut the cable lock that was securing the bike. The victim reported a loss of $2,200. 

Deceitful duo 

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Jan. 12, two thieves worked together to steal items from a store on the 200 block of North Canon Drive. One person asked the sales representative repeated questions to create a distraction while another person removed and concealed merchandise before fleeing. A loss of $2,895 was reported. 

Work computer 

Between 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 and 8 a.m. on Jan. 13, a laptop was stolen from an unsecured office building on the 400 block of North Bedford Drive. A loss of $2,500 was reported. 

Two broken windows 

During the night of Jan. 13, someone broke into two cars parked in an underground garage on the 200 block of South Hamilton Drive. Each car had one window that had been smashed in, possibly with a screwdriver. One victim reported a loss of $10 and the other a loss of $260.

Carjacking 

Shortly before noon on Jan. 14, someone entered another person’s running vehicle on the 800 block of North Crescent Drive. The car owner followed the suspect and grabbed his shoulder to stop the theft, but released the suspect due to fear of injury. The suspect then sped away.

Nice bike

At about 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 15, an unsecured bicycle was stolen from an apartment walkway on the 9500 block of West Olympic Boulevard. The victim reported a loss of $3,000.
