Police Arrest Suspect in 13 Car Burglaries

"The suspect had a long history of auto burglaries and thefts from autos and preys on unlocked cars," Beverly Hills Police said.

A 28-year-old Los Angeles man suspect of burglarizing at least 13 cars was arrested Tuesday by Beverly Hills police.

Timothy Alexander Johnson was taken into custody after a witness provided a description and Beverly Hills police recognized the man sitting on a bus bench directly in front of City Hall about 6:30 a.m., said Lt. Lincoln Hoshino of the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Police were called to the 700 block of North Foothill Road about 4:55 a.m. in response to a burglary in progress. The witness had watched a suspect walking away from his residence, leaving his garage door open.

Officers discovered 13 unlocked vehicles in the area which had been ransacked.

"The suspect had a long history of auto burglaries and thefts from autos and preys on unlocked cars," Hoshino said.

Johnson was taken into custody on suspicion of burglary and receiving stolen property.
