Police Arrest 2 Robbery Suspects After 'Hot' Car Detected

The following arrests were provided by the Beverly Hills Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Beverly Hills police arrested two men Wednesday wanted in a Los Angeles robbery case after one of its units equipped with an automatic license plate reader detected the car used in the robbery.

Jesus Ortiz, 21, and Jose Ayala, 25, both of Los Angeles were arrested shortly after 2:15 p.m. Sept. 18 and were taken into custody without incident.

An officer on routine patrol in a police vehicle equipped with the license plate reader alerted to a wanted 2000 Nissan Altima, that the vehicle was used in a robbery in the Rampart area of Los Angeles and was considered armed and dangerous. 

Officers located the vehicle in the area of Wilshire and Robertson boulevards and followed the vehicle until sufficient back-up could arrive and subsequently conducted a high risk stop in the area of Wilshire Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard.

The two suspects were then taken into custody.
