More Copper Wire Stolen, Police Say

From City News Service

Thieves stole copper wire providing power to large street lamps in Beverly Hills, the second such theft in recent weeks, police said Wednesday.

Tuesday night's theft affected the western portion of Lexington Road heading north to the 1000 block of North Roxbury Drive to Benedict Canyon Drive.

The first theft occurred several weeks ago in the southeast portion of the city and affected Whitworth Drive between Rexford Drive and Robertson Boulevard.

Police asked anyone seeing workers at night not driving city-marked vehicles or wearing uniforms, or a section of lights suddenly going out to call (310) 550-4951.

Brave or stupid. Some of those old systems run at 2300 volts, and are on photocells, they can come on unexpectedly, if they do while the heist is ongoing, the thieves wont be hard to find. Gotta hand it to them though, pulling wire out of underground installs that have been there awhile, can be a real bear. It aint no cut n run operation.
