Labor Day Traffic Report: One Death on L.A. County Highways

One traffic-related death has been reported on county highways during the first 36 hours of this year's Labor Day weekend.

The California Highway Patrol reported Sunday one traffic-related death on Los Angeles County highways during the first 36 hours of this year's three-day Labor Day weekend.

The reporting period began at 6:01 p.m. Friday and concluded Sunday at 6 a.m. During that same reporting period last year, there were three traffic-related fatalities in Los Angeles County, according to a department statement.

Statewide, there were 11 fatalities in the first 36 hours of the Labor Day weekend, compared with 10 during the same period in 2011.

In Los Angeles County, CHP officers arrested 191 motorists on suspicion of drunken driving, down from last year's total of 227. Statewide, the CHP reported 892 DUI arrests, in comparison with last year's 1,008.
