'Haggler Bandit' Hitting Banks Near Beverly Hills

A serial bank robber continued his spree Friday at the Beverly Center and The Grove after robbing a bank in Monrovia Thursday, according to the FBI.

The "Haggler Bandit" attempted to rob a bank at the Beverly Center and robbed another near The Grove Friday, authorities said.

The suspect said he had a weapon when he attempted to rob the Chase branch at 100 N. La Cienega Blvd. The suspect robbed a Citibank branch at 300 S. Fairfax Ave., said Laura Eimiller of the FBI.

The "Haggler Bandit" has been linked to three bank robberies and two attempted robberies in a 10-day period.

On Thursday, the suspect robbed a Chase branch at 690 W. Huntington Drive in Monrovia and attempted to rob a Wells Fargo branch at 655 N. Fair Oaks Ave. in Pasadena, Eimiller said.

The robberies began Aug. 22 when he struck the Citibank branch at 161 W. California Blvd.

The suspect was described as being in his late 20s to about 40 years old. He is between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, and weighs about 150 to 170 pounds.

The suspect was given the nickname "Haggler Bandit" because tellers described him as having haggled to some extent over the amount of money he expected to receive based on his demand for cash, Eimiller said. He also passes a note to the teller during the robberies.

Officials urged anyone with information regarding these robberies to contact police in Pasadena, Monrovia and Los Angeles, the FBI or 911.
