BHPD Flips Pancakes for Community

The Beverly Hills Police Department hosts its annual breakfast and open house, with an array of gear on display.

Brian Weir and his fellow officers moved quickly, pouring batter and flipping pancakes to keep up with the demands of a growing line at Sunday morning's Beverly Hills Police Department Open House.

"It's very important that we get a chance to say thank you to the community," Weir said. "Everyone supports us throughout the year in what we do in various ways and this is kind of our way of giving back and saying thank you."

Atop the stairs overlooking the Civic Center Plaza, children were climbing in, out and on top of an armored police van. In the plaza below, punching bags sat on a large training mat near a table that displayed several machine guns and SWAT building-entry tools. In neat rows, police motorcycles and bicycles stood on kickstands as people climbed them, posing for pictures.

At one of the dozens of picnic tables set up for the occasion, resident Afshan Tabibian sat with her two sons.

"We are here to see our neighbors, families, classmates…it's very good," Tabibian said. "And seeing the police department, each part of this is interesting."
