Beverly Hills Resident Survives Glider Plane Crash

The craft made an emergency crash landing in a remote mountainous area, southwest of Wrightwood.

 

A 53-year-old Beverly Hills resident escaped major injury when the glider plane in which he was a passenger made an emergency landing in Wrightwood.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, which sent deputies in to help, the glider plane made an emergency crash landing in a remote mountainous area, southwest of Wrightwood at 10:55 a.m. today.

“The pilot and passenger were airlifted to safety and were flown to a local area hospital,” says a news alert from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. “Miraculously, the pilot sustained only minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. The passenger also sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.”

The glider airplane had reportedly left an airport in Llano, south of Lake Los Angeles in the high desert, in tow behind a powered aircraft, according to officials.

“At some point after being released from the powered aircraft, the glider lost altitude quickly, forcing the pilot to make an emergency crash landing,” says the release.

The Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the Los Angeles
County Sheriff’s Department Aero Bureau are investigating the crash.
