Beverly Hills Police Mourns Loss of Veteran Detective

During his tenure, Det. Gabriel "Gabe" Coyoca was the recipient of several commendations and a co-recipient of the Felix Rothschild Award.

Beverly Hills Police Det. Gabriel “Gabe” Coyoca passed on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, after a nine month battle with Leukemia, caused by exposure to chemicals while enforcing narcotic laws.

Coyoca joined the BHPD in 2005 where he was assigned as a patrol officer. In 2007 he was selected as a detective and assigned to the Special Enforcement Section, handling vice, narcotics and other sensitive investigations.

During his tenure, he was the recipient of several commendations and a co-recipient of the Felix Rothschild Award.

Prior to joining the BHPD, Coyoca served with the Costa Mesa Police Department from 1996 to 2005 where he worked a variety of assignments including patrol, SWAT and Special Enforcement Detail encompassing gangs, parole, probation, vice and narcotics enforcement.

He is survived by his wife, 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter.

Private Services were held on Jan. 3. A college fund for his two young children has been established.
