Beverly Hills Police Host Annual Community Event

The BHPOA welcomed residents to the Civic Center Plaza for free breakfast and police-related activities.

The city's police force cooked up free flapjacks, gave interactive demonstrations and lead tours of the station Sunday morning as part of the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association’s annual Police Service Day and Pancake Breakfast.

“This is our way of saying ‘Thank you’ to the community for their support throughout the year,” said Sgt. Terry Nutall, president of the BHPOA. “We’re not asking for anything. We just want the people to come out, sit back, relax and enjoy themselves—all courtesy of the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association.”

Aside from flipping pancakes, motorcycle and bicycle officers held displays and the K-9 unit introduced people to Max, the station’s 5-year-old German shepherd. There was also a Defensive Tactics area where kids could try out moves on punching bags.

Forensic specialists at the Crime Lab Truck demonstrated how to find fingerprints and place evidence markers at a crime scene while SWAT Team members showed off its armored SWAT vehicle and various weapons.

Beverly Hills resident Denise Geller said she brings her family to the BHPOA breakfast event every year.

“The kids love it. It’s fun to meet the dog and see the emergency response teams,” Geller said. “Plus, the pancakes are delicious.”

She said the best part of the day is the jail tour because officers take the childrens’ fingerprints along with a mug shot holding up the police department placard.

“It’s good for the kids to see what it’s like,” Geller said. “It shows them a place where they don’t ever want to end up.”
